Mahamadou Diawara: Lyon Youngster Removed From France U20 Squad For Refusing to Quit Fasting

French football has been hit with yet another scandal after Olympique Lyonnais youngster Mahamadou Diawara was removed from the U20 squad for the friendlies against Germany.

The 19-year-old was initially included in the squad before he was later omitted without any formal communication from the federation.

However, reports in France indicate that the midfielder was forced out of the team after deciding to observe Ramadan during the international break.

According to Instant Foot via Djameel, some players were informed of the decision before arriving in camp but Diawara had to be taken out because he would not stop fasting.

The French Football Federation is yet to respond to the rumours or give any valid reason for the dropping of the Lyon player.

In the past, French-born players have been forced to pick the country of their parents due to a similar event with Algeria’s Amine Gouiri a recent victim.
